St Patrick’s Day celebrations at The Rover
Friday March 17, 12:00 pm - 11:55 pm
The Wild Rover Paddy Day celebrations run from 13 March to Sunday 19 March 2017 and your jovial Irish/Australian hybrid neighbourhood bar will play host to live music, The Emerald Isle pop trivia night, a whiskey tasting featuring rare whiskies courtesy of New Midleton Distillery, food and drink specials and the inaugural Irish Whiskey Fair. All in the name of the biggest day on the Irish calendar, Paddy’s Day.
Dust off your drinking boots because this is going to get wild.
Everyday from Monday to Sunday until 6pm, enjoy $5 Guinness, $5 Jameson, $1 oysters and $11 Jameson Caskmates old fashions. For this week only, The Wild Rovers annual Paddy’s Day delicacy, Spuds with Guinness gravy will be added to The Rovers food offering along with steak and Guinness pies to tie you over in between drinks.
Kicking the week off with the Irish Whiskey Fair Fundraiser on Monday 13 March, some of the the best Irish Whiskies found in Australia will be showcased upstairs at The Wild Rover during an afternoon and evening. Entry includes ten tasting tokens, food and your own whiskey tasting glass. All profits go to charity Darkness Into Light, visit www.thewhiskeycoop.com for more information.
We’re going to be throwing in a few Irish Pop culture questions to our usual Trivia Tuesday so while you don’t need to be Irish to participate, knowing the location of the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin or the lead singer’s name of The Frames won’t hurt your chances to take home a $100 bar voucher or prizes supplied by our mates at Jameson. Brain food of Spuds with Guinness Gravy and our Beef and Guinness pie will be available all night.
Rare whiskey has been sent over from Ireland for a one-night-only tasting on Wednesday 15 March, hosted by Jameson Brand Ambassador Kate Moran. The New Midleton Whiskey Stash will be the only opportunity for Irish whiskey fans to try rare booze that has not yet hit the market. $25 includes five whiskey tasters and food during the session.
The week hits its stride on Paddy’s Day, Friday 17 March. Just in time for the weekend.
The celebrations begin when the big green door opens from midday. Get stuck into $5 Guinness, $5 Jameson, $1 oysters until 6pm before The Sweet Jelly Rolls get the room foot-stomping and whiskey swigging until late. Come in to eat your weight in spuds, taste Jameson cocktails crafted especially for the day and enjoy the hoedown, you won’t be disappointed.
Rounding out the week long celebrations with live music, the Buffalo Grass Boys will be playing bluegrass tunes from 7pm on Saturday and Echo Dear from 6pm on Sunday.
If you were at The Wild Rover last year for Paddy’s Day, you’ll know what you’re in for.
See you at the bar.
